Back in stock in mid January 2026, the Cruising Solutions' Breeze Bandit is a unique breeze-catching wind scoop designed to catch the wind --regardless of the wind direction. -- It redirects the wind down through your boat's hatch to cool your cabin on those sweltering summer nights. This is why it has been the favorite wind scoop of cruising sailors for more than 20 years. See a third-party review of the Cruising Solutions Breeze Bandit from The Boat Galley here
The lightweight reinforced polyester fabric has a unique 4-chamber design, which catches the slightest breeze from any direction, and the low-level skirt then directs it down-the-hatch for your comfort. Strong reinforcement webbing along the sides allow you to keep it taut, so it stays stable in even strong winds, without fluttering.
Most boat wind scoops are quite short and have extra rods or flexible bows to stay fixed in place. And they only work when the wind is coming from one direction, so they aren't very efficient if the breeze changes directions, anchored in a current, or when tied-up dockside. The Breeze Bandit solves this problem.
The Breeze Bandit stands 6’ tall, so it has much more breeze-catching area compared with the other small hatch vents or wind scoops. It fits hatches up to 21″ X 21″ or 24″ x 18″ (larger hatches up to 24"x 24" possible by releasing the bight in the snap webbing - contact us for more info). A drawstring storage pouch and mounting hardware are included.
So what happens if it rains? Unlike other fiddly wind scoop contraptions, the Breeze Bandit is tethered, and secures from the inside, with snaps fastening the base to the headliner around the hatch perimeter. When set up per the instructions, just quickly release the four snaps and close the hatch when you are caught by unexpected rain or squalls --The Breeze Bandit will still be secure via its attachment to the halyard and the deck, and it will just blow in the wind until you re-attach it. Try that with another type of wind scoop!
Will it require my bug screen to be removed? Not typically. The webbing is flat, and can normally be passed in between the bug screen's fame and the hatch frame.
They make great boat warming or holiday gifts for your sailing friends.
* The Breeze Bandit's clever design has actually been keeping sailors cool for more than 200 years. This design is based off of a design we found in a 19th century British Navy sailing manual. It continues to endure as the most practical and efficient wind catcher design out there. You won't be disappointed.

Who recommends the Breeze Bandit? The Breeze Bandit is recommended by Carolyn Shearlock, founder of The Boat Galley, who spent 17 years full-time cruising in near-tropical climates without air conditioning. She and her husband relied on a 4-way wind scoop throughout their time in the Sea of Cortez, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas.
FAQs
What is the Breeze Bandit and how does it work?
The Breeze Bandit is a 4-way wind scoop that captures wind from any direction and funnels it down your hatch. Its tall, four-chamber design keeps fresh air flowing into the cabin even when the breeze shifts.
What should I do if a squall hits while using the Breeze Bandit?
The Breeze Bandit is designed for quick removal from inside the cabin. Just release the four interior snaps and close the hatch. The scoop remains tethered to the halyard and blows free without detaching. After the storm passes, reattach the snaps and redeploy in seconds.
How long does the Breeze Bandit last in tropical sun?
In strong tropical sun and steady trade winds, expect around 6 to 12 months of use. In less extreme conditions, it can last much longer. As with any fabric exposed to UV and wind, lifespan depends on environment and usage.
What hatch sizes does it fit?
The Breeze Bandit fits hatches up to 21″ x 21″ or 24″ x 18″. Larger hatches up to 24″ x 24″ may be accommodated by releasing the bight in the snap webbing. For oversized hatches, customers can also set up a small rope to attach inside.
How is it different from traditional wind scoops?
Unlike single-direction scoops, the Breeze Bandit works no matter which way the wind blows. As your boat swings at anchor, the correct panel opens automatically, so you don’t need to reset it during the night.
Do I need to remove my bug screen?
Usually no. The flat webbing can typically slide between the hatch frame and the bug screen frame, allowing you to keep ventilation and insect protection at the same time.

This wind scoop is so great!
We had one on our previous boat and left it for the new owner, so I ordered two more for our new boat!

Works so well from all wind angles. Help keep the boat cool inside with a nice bow to stern through-breeze.
