Anchor bridles, snubbers, swivels, and chain hooks protect the windlass and make the boat quieter at anchor. Use this page after you have chosen the anchor and chain size. The goal is to move shock loads off the windlass, reduce noise and yawing, and make retrieval cleaner at the bow roller.

Match chain hooks and swivels to the actual chain size, not just the anchor weight. Catamarans usually need a bridle to split load across both bows. Monohulls often use a snubber or bridle line to add stretch and keep the rode fair. If the bow roller is tight, check swivel length and articulation before ordering.

Compare Anchor Bridles by chain size, boat type, length, and connection hardware.

Product type Use it for
Chain hooks Connecting a snubber or bridle to anchor chain
Bridles and snubbers Shock absorption and load sharing away from the windlass
Swivels Reducing chain twist and helping the anchor retrieve right-side-up
Mooring snap shackles Quick connection where the load path and rating are appropriate

Bridle & snubber FAQ

Bridle or single snubber?

A single-line snubber is the simple choice for most monohulls. A bridle spreads the load to two attachment points and is the standard setup for catamarans.

Why use one at all?

Chain doesn't stretch. A nylon snubber or bridle absorbs shock loads before they reach your windlass, cleats, and deck hardware. Mantus notes the reduction is substantial, and it stops chain noise at the bow.
