LiCELL 1L AVD - Lithium Battery Fire Extinguisher

Product Description:

A portable fire extinguisher containing AVD (Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion) agent, designed as supplemental protection for lithium battery fire risks. Intended for lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery fire risk areas, as well as electrical and Class A fire risks. Environmentally responsible with no GWP (Global Warming Potential) and non-toxic to people, animals, and plants.

Lithium battery fires are dangerous due to “thermal runaway” caused by cell failure from damage, defect, short circuit, overcharging, or overheating. Thermal runaway leads to rapid chain reactions, escalating fire intensity and duration.

LiCELL™ extinguishers with AVD encapsulate the fire source with a non-flammable oxygen barrier, providing a cooling effect to help address thermal runaway.

Lithium battery failure can be caused by:

  • Physical impact or penetration
  • Overheating
  • Short circuits
  • Internal cell failure
  • Manufacturing defects

As lithium batteries become more common in boats, workshops, warehouses, data centers, tools, e-bikes, and portable power systems, supplemental lithium battery fire response planning is increasingly important.

The consequences of lithium battery fires are severe, so taking proper supplemental precautions is important.

For battery rooms, warehouses, workshops, data centers, e-waste facilities, marine systems, and industrial lithium battery risks, compare extinguishers by usable AVD agent volume — not just canister price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are LiCell AVD extinguishers commonly used?

LiCell AVD extinguishers may be considered as supplemental portable protection for lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery risks in industrial, commercial, government, marine, and technical environments. Common applications include battery rooms, data centers, UPS battery backup areas, server rooms, e-waste and recycling facilities, warehouses, workshops, aviation and aerospace support areas, forestry and government field operations, lithium battery storage areas, and marine vessels.

Why does AVD agent volume matter?

AVD extinguishers are not all equal. A lower-priced canister may contain less usable AVD agent, reducing practical coverage and requiring additional units. When comparing lithium battery fire extinguishers, review agent volume, extinguisher size, intended application, and total cost of protection.

Is the cheapest lithium battery extinguisher the best value?

Not always. A cheaper unit with less AVD agent may cost less upfront but require more units for the same practical response. For battery rooms, data centers, warehouses, e-waste facilities, workshops, aviation support, government operations, marine vessels, and industrial lithium battery risks, the better measure is cost per usable litre of AVD agent.

Which lithium battery types is LiCell AVD intended for?

LiCell AVD extinguishers are intended for lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery fire risks, as well as electrical and Class A fires. If you are dealing with lithium-metal batteries, unusual battery chemistries, or a large engineered battery system, consult your fire protection professional, insurer, or authority having jurisdiction.

Is LiCell AVD suitable for LiFePO4, LFP, and lithium-polymer batteries?

LiCell AVD extinguishers are intended for lithium battery fire risks, including lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries. LiFePO4, also called lithium iron phosphate or LFP, is a common lithium-ion battery chemistry used in marine batteries, solar storage, RV systems, portable power stations, industrial equipment, and energy storage applications.

If your battery is a lithium-ion chemistry such as LiFePO4/LFP, LiCell AVD may be considered as a supplemental portable response option when used as directed. For lithium-metal batteries, unusual chemistries, or large engineered battery systems, consult the battery manufacturer, fire protection professional, insurer, or authority having jurisdiction.

Can LiCell AVD extinguishers help with thermal runaway?

LiCell AVD is designed to address lithium battery thermal runaway by cooling the fire source and forming a non-flammable barrier when applied as directed. Thermal runaway can be severe, fast-moving, and may involve re-ignition risk, so these extinguishers should be treated as supplemental protection, not a replacement for evacuation, emergency response, code-required extinguishers, engineered suppression systems, or facility fire procedures.

Why do lithium battery fires create environmental and cleanup concerns?

Lithium-ion battery fires can involve extreme heat, toxic smoke, venting gases, re-ignition risk, and contaminated debris. This is especially important for marine vessels, forestry operations, e-waste facilities, warehouses, data centers, and industrial sites where a battery fire can affect people, equipment, air quality, water, soil, or surrounding property. LiCell AVD extinguishers are intended as a supplemental portable response option and should be used alongside evacuation procedures, emergency response plans, proper battery storage, and any required cleanup or disposal process.

Are LiCell extinguishers shipped through dangerous-goods shipping channels?

Yes. LiCell extinguishers ship through dangerous-goods shipping channels. Preparation and documentation are required before shipment, which is why these products do not normally ship the same day.

Can LiCell AVD extinguishers be shipped to California?

California has specific requirements for portable fire extinguishers. LiCell AVD extinguishers are sold for supplemental use and California orders can only be processed under limited circumstances. California customers should contact us before ordering.

Are LiCell AVD extinguishers a replacement for required fire extinguishers?

No. LiCell AVD extinguishers should be considered supplemental lithium battery fire protection unless your fire marshal, fire protection engineer, insurer, or authority having jurisdiction confirms otherwise. They should not be treated as a replacement for code-required extinguishers, sprinkler systems, battery-room fire protection, or facility emergency procedures.
