⚠️ Important California Fire Extinguisher Regulations
▼
California law prohibits selling handheld fire extinguishers without UL equipment & fire testing approval. One UL equipment requirement is a pressure gauge, making all aerosol disposable extinguishers illegal in the state. Below are two conventional ABC extinguishers that are readily available on Amazon like the AA500, which also lack UL approval and are illegal to sell in California.
Our AH-Series extinguishers do have pressure gauges and comply with UL equipment standards, but UL has yet to develop a fire testing standard for lithium-ion battery fires. We’ve discussed this regulatory gap with the California State Fire Marshal, but they have yet to address. Due to this lack of a UL fire testing standard, the agent has been independently third-party tested, the extinguishers are designed to be UL equipment standards compliant (for eventual approval once a fire testing standard is created), and the extinguishers are sold as “Supplement Use.”
The result is, we currently sell to California customers in only six limited circumstances outlined below:
- Extinguishers used for testing purposes: Documentation: Email from either customer or sales rep
- Customers with their own firefighting function/group/department: Documentation: Email from either customer or sales rep
- Customers with approval from local fire department or fire marshal: Documentation: Digital copy of approval provided by customer or sales rep
- U.S. Government locations (e.g., DOD, USCG, FAA, USDA): Documentation: None required
- Marine vessels temporarily docked in California: Documentation: Email from either customer or sales rep
- California customers with an order ship-to address outside California: Documentation: Email from either customer or sales rep
Please let us know which circumstance this order falls under and provide the appropriate documentation.

LiCELL - 9L AVD - Lithium Battery Fire Extinguisher
Product Description:
A portable fire extinguisher with AVD (Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion) agent to combat lithium battery fires. Suitable for Li-ion, Li-poly, electrical, and class A fires. Environmentally responsible with no GWP (Global Warming Potential) and non-toxic to people, animals, and plants.
Lithium battery fires are fast, dangerous, and tough to control due to thermal runaway, which is caused by cell failure from damage, defect, short circuit, overcharging, or overheating. LiCELL™ extinguishers encapsulate the fire source with a non-flammable oxygen barrier, providing a cooling effect to address thermal runaway.
Size for 9L - 24.8 inches by 7.5 by 7.1 inches
Lithium battery failure can be caused by:
- Physical impact or penetration
- Overheating
- Short circuits
- Internal cell failure
- Manufacturing defects
The rise in lithium battery technology increases the risk of battery fires. How prepared are you for a lithium battery fire? Having the right precautions in place is critical.
